Women are always analyzing what's going on around them. If you show up with a serious gift, she will immediately wonder, "Why did he bring me candy? (flowers, etc.)? What is he hoping to get from me?" Her radar will go on high alert, and you will look like you started the date with a bribe. Not good!

Mistake # 2 - Being Too Serious

It's pretty common for a guy on a first date to start to act more serious instead of keeping up the casual friendly vibe they have with their friends. They don't make jokes or laugh with the woman, or play around like they do with their friends. They just generally take things a little too seriously. Frequently, guys change their behavior around women, many times without even realizing they're doing it. Maybe they especially want that woman to like them, so they go overboard on trying not to appear immature - who knows? But most women appreciate fun and an open, casual atmosphere on a first date.

Mistake # 3 - Conducting An Interview

Sometimes guys on a first date fall into "job interview conversation mode." Boring!! Save the "biography" questions for the future, after you've already had a lot of fun and made sparks fly. Instead, talk about your hobbies, interesting stories, and fun stuff. Aim to talk like you've known each other for years, and you don't need to do the awkward "20-questions" that characterize so many first dates. Of course you can ask basic questions, but never make it the main focus of your first-date conversation.

Mistake # 4 - Seeming Too Needy

Without realizing it, many guys turn their dates off by trying way too hard. For example: Men will lean into a woman's personal space and ask, "So do you like me?" Oh please! How pathetic can you possibly make yourself look? Almost as bad is constantly changing your opinion to match hers. Big mistake! Ironically, it's leaning back, staying cool and calm, being a little cheeky, interesting, and appearing a little mysterious and comfortable with yourself that really gets a woman's attention and keeps her interested.

Mistake # 5 - Planning A Boring First Date

If she thinks your date was boring, you're finished. Dinners and movies are nice, but it can be really hard to leave a great impression in those settings. Why? Because they can set a very "proper tone" (especially if you've chosen an expensive restaurant or terribly serious or sad movie) that's almost impossible to turn into a lighthearted, fun, and playful occasion. Instead, go to fun or off-beat places like mini-golf parks, carnivals, parks, or even better, some unique and fun event that occurring in your area.
